Update on Errors made in Returns

Update on Errors made in Returns

This update is being prepared in order to rectify the mistakes which were made during the year. If input tax credit has not been availed during the year or if credit notes or debit notes are yet to be issued or if outward tax liability is shown wrong, then what has to be done. All the adjustments are to be made before 30th of September or before filing of the annual return. Let us analyse the following situations:

  1. The GSTR -2A reflects the input tax credit to be availed by us. The credit claimed by us may  not match with the one shown in GSTR-2A. We might have claimed either excess or short credit.

·         If Excess credit has been claimed by us than shown in GSTR -2A. There might be several reasons like supplier might not have paid GST and not filed GST Return (To rectify this ask him to pay and file the Return), the supplier might not have correctly quoted your GST No. (To rectify this Ask him to correct it in the subsequent months return before September, 2018.
·         If short credit is claimed than as shown in GSTR-2A. The reasons may be like purchases and expenses might not have been accounted for. To rectify this account and claim ITC.

2.Similarly, while filing GSTR-1, we may also have wrongly quoted some of our customers GSTIN. Correct this before September, 2018.

3.Sales Return and Purchase Return: Under GST sale return and purchase return has special procedure to be followed. Any omissions either on our end or on supplier’s end has to be corrected in return before 30th September.

4.While filing the return GSTR-3B, if outward liability has been accounted for less than the actual then the liability is to be immediately paid along with interest and to be corrected in the next month’s return.

The Summary of this update is that all the corrections of the previous financial year are to be made either before 30th September or before filing of the annual return.
