GST DAILY DOSE OF UPDATION ON CREDIT ADMISSIBILTY IN CASE OF GOODS IN TRANSIT

GST DAILY DOSE OF UPDATION ON CREDIT ADMISSIBILTY IN CASE OF GOODS IN TRANSIT
One important point that needs consideration is that in which month the input tax credit of goods in transit is to be availed by the assessees. Say for example, if the goods have been despatched on 26.07.2017 but are received in the premises of buyer on 02.08.2017, in that case, how the input tax credit is to be availed. This is for the reason that the supplier of goods will upload the invoice in his GSTR-1 and reflect the transaction as outward supply for the month of July, 2017 whereas the recipeint of goods cannot accept the transaction in GSTR-2A unless the said goods are received by the recipient. However, if the Final Rules for filing returns under GST are pursued, it is found that the government has taken care of this situation in the GST returns.

It is submitted that as per notes given under the format of GSTR-2, it is clearly mentioned that the recipeint taxpayer has the following action to act on the auto populated information:-
a. Accept
b. Reject
c. Modify (if the information provided by the supplier is incorrect), or
d. Keep the transaction pending for action (if goods or services have not been received)

The option enumerated above clearly reflects that in case of goods in transit, the assessee will have the option to hold the auto populated details until the goods are received by the assessee. Thereafter, on actual receipt of goods, the assessee may again accept the auto populated details and avail the input tax credit in respect of such goods.
